ANDERSON — The board of directors for the Saica Group has approved the construction of the company’s second U.S. plant in Anderson.
The Anderson Redevelopment Commission in January agreed to a one-year extension of an agreement for the construction of a $130 million facility by SAICA Pack USA.
The company is planning a 350,000-square-foot facility on Park Road to produce more than 1.2 million square feet of corrugated packaging.
The company’s first U.S. plant is located in Ohio.
Construction is expected to start in May with production to start in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The facility will employ 50 people at its opening and increase to more than 100 employees when in full operation.
“Saica is committed to stability and long-term growth in the U.S.,” Susana Alejandro, president of the Saica Group, said in a press release. “This investment is the proof that we are moving forward with our plans in the U.S. as we are convinced that we can provide products that will differentiate us in a crowded market.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is providing $2 million in incentive-based tax credits and $150,000 in training grants.
The IEDC also offered up to $300,000 in grant fund incentives to support infrastructure improvements to the site.
“Saica’s investment in Indiana is a testament to our state’s pro-growth business climate and robust network of skilled manufacturing talent,” said Ann Lathrop, chief strategy officer for the IDEC. “The company’s new Hoosier operations will have a significant impact on the local economy and for the community of Anderson, Madison County and the surrounding central Indiana region for years to come.”
Anderson Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr. said city officials are excited that Saica has selected Anderson for the new facility.
“This investment into our community will assist us in our continued efforts of bringing into Anderson diversified advanced manufacturing opportunities,” he said.
Plans call for the widening of Park Road between 53rd and 67th streets, relocation of power lines and construction of a rail spur.
The city has received a $600,000 infrastructure grant from the state to help cover the cost of improvements to Park Road, which will include a turning lane.
Last year the Anderson City Council approved a $5.4 million bond for the company.
The Redevelopment Commission also approved $10 million in tax increment financing through a 10-year bond for the project.
SAICA has 107 facilities worldwide and employs about 12,000 people.
Signage will direct truck traffic to travel south on Park Road to 67th Street.
